Coming to GOBELINS

  • What about insurances?

    Health cover:

As an international student coming to study in France, you will have to register to Social Security (Sécurité Sociale) to cover your health expenses. The French health system includes both mandatory basic health insurance (Social Security) and optional extra health insurance to supplement health coverage. When you enrol in a higher educational institution, registration to the student Social Security is compulsory and there is an admission charge, except for:

    • European students
    • students from Québec
    • students who have been granted a scholarship from the French Government.

The form of registration you will have to make depends on your situation and nationality:

    1. You are under 28 years of age on 1st October and you come from an EU member State or Switzerland
You are not required to register with the student social security scheme on the condition that you hold a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), which has been issued in your country of origin and is valid for the whole academic year.
You have to register with the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) closest to your place of residence and present your EHIC.
If you have healthcare expenses, you will be refunded according to the French social security reimbursement rates.

    2. You are under 28 years of age on 1st October and you come from a non-EU country
You must register with the student social security scheme. You will be entitled to Social security and may have to pay a registration fee.
You can subscribe to extra health insurance coverage top-up plan to ensure optimal reimbursement of your healthcare expenses.

    3. You are over 28 years of age on 1st October whatever your country of origin
If you do not qualify for any exemptions, you are not eligible to student social security due to your age.
If you are over 28 and if you come to study in France for more than 3 months, you must register with the general social security scheme at the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM) closest to your place of residence.
If you have healthcare expenses, you will be refunded according to the French social security reimbursement rates.

    Other insurances:

It is also compulsory to have civil liability insurance, repatriation scheme and accident coverage. You can buy your own insurance. When you register, you will have to provide GOBELINS a document that will confirm you have such coverage.
The school can also provide you with this insurance when you register. It will cost you around 14,00 euros for the academic year and it ill cover: accidents in France, repatriation costs and civil liability.
