Pour la première fois dans l’histoire de GOBELINS, l’école de l’image, une école de la Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris, un film de fin d’études réalisé par des élèves de la formation « Conception et Réalisation de Films d’Animation » est nommé aux Oscars. « Oktapodi » a été sélectionné dans la catégorie films courts d’animation par les membres de la prestigieuse « Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ». 

Ce dernier est aujourd’hui en compétition avec « La Maison de Petits Cubes » (Robot Communications, Inc, Japon), « Lavatory – Lovestory » (Melnitsa Animation Studio, Russie), « Presto » (Studio PIXAR, Etats-Unis) et « This Way Up » (Studio Nexus Production, Angleterre).

Réalisé en 2007 par Julien BOCABEILLE, François-Xavier CHANIOUX, Olivier DELABARRE, Thierry MARCHAND, Quentin MARMIER et Emud MOKHBERI, élèves en 3ème année de la formation Conception et réalisation de films d'animation, « Oktapodi » met en scène deux poulpes qui, pour échapper aux griffes d'un commis cuisinier, se lancent dans une burlesque course poursuite. Pourtant malgré leur improbable succès pour échapper à leur fatale destinée, leur combat pour rester unis ne semble pas prêt de se terminer…

Le 22 février prochain, l’équipe du film se rendra à Hollywood pour assister à la cérémonie des Oscars et, peut-être, remporter la célèbre statuette ! Auparavant, ils participeront à une tournée des studios d’animation à San Francisco et Los Angeles où ils rencontreront la presse.

 « Oktapodi » a déjà reçu plus d’une dizaine des distinctions les plus prestigieuses du monde de l’animation parmi lesquelles :

PARIS, France (January 23, 2009) – OKTAPODI, a 3D animated short film directed by six students at Paris-based visual communication school GOBELINS, l’école de l’image, was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Animated Short Film. This is the first time that an animated short produced and created by students at GOBELINS has been nominated for an Oscar.

The film was directed in 2007 by Julien Bocabeille, François-Xavier Chanioux, Olivier Delabarre, Thierry Marchand, Quentin Marmier and Emud Mokhberi, all students in the final, third year of the animation filmmaking course at GOBELINS.

The brilliantly colorful OKTAPODI features two octopi in a madcap escape from the grasp of a restaurant cook in a Greek village. In this comical and charming tale of true love, the tentacled couple face insurmountable odds to reunite and stay together.

OKTAPODI is one of five films selected in the category of Best Animated Short Film. Distributed by Premium Films, OKTAPODI is in competition with LA MAISON EN PETITS CUBES (Robot Communications), LAVATORY – LOVESTORY (Melnitsa Animation Studio), PRESTO (Pixar) and THIS WAY UP (Nexus).

The directors of OKTAPODI will participate in AWN’s Oscar Showcase Tour in San Francisco on February 12-13 and in Los Angeles on February 17-21 before attending the Academy Awards ceremony. The tour consists of screening and press events sponsored by Animation World Network (www.awn.com), the animation industry’s leading website and the largest animation-related publishing group on the Internet.
